Wayne Richard Remington was born on November 18, 1946 in Lincoln Nebraska to William Remington and Ethel (Aileen) Firebaugh Remington. He was the second of four children. He grew up in Lincoln attending Northeast for his Sophomore year. The family moved to Greenwood, NE his junior year. Wayne graduated from Ashland-Greenwood High School in 1965.
Wayne joined the Army in 1966. He completed Basic Training at Fort Benning Georgia. He was then stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington. In 1967 Wayne was deployed to Thailand and then Vietnam. Wayne was honorably discharged from the Army in 1969.
When Wayne returned home, he reunited with his high school sweetheart, Kathie Bueoy. They were joined in marriage on March 31, 1970. Their family was complete with 3 children. Arnold, Michael and Jody. Wayne was baptized on February 28, 1971 at Salem Lutheran Church in Omaha.
Wayne worked at Goodyear for 20+ years. After retiring from Goodyear, he worked for Armadillo driving railroad crews for 10 years. Wayne enjoyed Tournament fishing. He and Kathie often went on fishing tournament trips. He was always up for taking the boat out with anyone who was interested. Kathie always said Wayne’s first love was his family, second was fishing and third was his boat.
Wayne’s pride and joy were his Grandchildren. He was always happy to talk about them and what they were up to. He loved to spend time with them (especially if they wanted to fish). He loved to go for rides in the country and he loved to fish and seemed to relax during the often long hours on the water. He had great patience and growing up rarely recall him ever raising his voice. He was firm but always fair, loving and generous. When he was around, you just kind of knew everything was going to be okay. He truly was a man of his word and of his heart.
He knew what was important and as they say the other stuff, well that’s just stuff and he dealt with it in his way and on his terms. We do not like that he isn’t going to be there to let us know things are going to be okay. We do not like that we won’t get to watch him chase the grandkids around or make a funny or slightly inappropriate joke. We especially do not like that he cast his line for the final time but we are so thankful he taught us how to appreciate the ripples and realize good things come with time and patience.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathie, son and daughter-in-law Arnold and Amy Remington, Daughter-in-law Becky Remington, Daughter and Son-in-law Jody and Alan Olsen, Grandsons Justus Olsen, Brayden, Noah, Christian, Micah, and Isaac Remington. Granddaughters Rachael and Izabelle Remington, Jordan Olsen, and Hope Remington. Brother Gary Remington, Sisters Janice Kyzer and Sue Walther. Several cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Wayne was proceeded in death by his parents, infant daughter Michele Remington and son Michael (Trustie) Remington.
