LINCOLN – Wayne C. Lafferty, 80, passed away January 27, 2017 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Visitation will be held at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, at North American Martyr’s Catholic Church, 1101 Isaac Drive in Lincoln, with a Rosary at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park at 1:30 p.m. Wayne was born in Alamosa, CO on January 19, 1937 to Mildred (Sawdon) and Clifford Lafferty. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1955 and married Patricia Chapman on June 2, 1956 in Trenton, NE. Wayne was an outstanding student/athlete at Trenton HS, and played football at McCook College. He was a career railroader, working for Burlington Northern as a signal engineer, and later formed his own company, S&L Enterprises. Wayne’s career advances allowed him to live in Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Colorado, and Missouri. Between retirements, he became a realtor in Springfield, Missouri. Wayne loved coaching football, basketball, track, baseball, volleyball, and swimming at Saints Peter and Paul and Holy Angels in Illinois. As an adult, he played softball and snow skied, and enjoyed watching his several grandchildren participate in athletics and activities. Wayne is survived by his sister Barb Patton of Torrington, WY, and children Julia (Kevin) Lostroh of Malcolm, NE, Joan (Merlin) Lahm of Columbus, NE, Jolene (Jerry) Brockman of Hastings, MN, and Mike (Diane) Lafferty of O’Fallon, IL, 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by in-laws Catherine Reiners, Jim Chapman, Tom and Detta Chapman, Tom and Shirley Rine, and Bob Pantenburg. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and wife Patricia. Memorials can be directed to the family for future designation.
