It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wanda Lee Ebben on November 15th, 2024, at the age of 94. Wanda was born on July 26th, 1930, in Lincoln, NE to William and Myrtle (Phillips) Barnhill.
Wanda was married to the love of her life, Duane “Red” Ebben, who preceded her in death on May 1st, 2004.
Wanda was an esteemed alumnus of Lincoln, Northeast Highschool class of 1949, spent many years organizing reunions and proudly stayed in touch with a variety of classmates. Wanda worked as a bookkeeper at Mass Merchandisers for 30 years prior to her retirement.
Through the course of her life, Wanda enjoyed her home on Rainbow Lake, boating, family reunions and membership at St. Luke’s United Methodist church. Wanda and Duane spent many happy years traveling together in their RV and wintering in Texas was one of their favorite ways to escape the Nebraska cold. Wanda was a giving soul, an exceptional caregiver, and lived for helping others.
Wanda was predeceased by her husband, parents, sister, Margaret Points, brother, William Barnhill, son, Duane (Nancy) Ebben, son-in-law, William (Bill) Schmidt, granddaughter, Crystal Schmidt and two precious grandbaby angels who never had the chance to meet us (Billy Lee, and Jesse Schmidt).
She is survived by her loving daughter, Terry “Susie” Schmidt, sister, Ruthie Rockvam, grandchildren; Chad Ebben, Shane Schmidt, and Merissa (Michael) Didrickson, great grandchildren; Riley Schwartztrauber, Tristan Didrickson and Elsie Ebben and, beloved family friend (adopted son) Gordon Obert.
Wanda, a beacon of kindness and love, will forever reside in our hearts.
Wanda requested immediate burial with an informal, graveside memorial service which will be held on Wednesday, November 20th at 3pm in Garden H at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home 6800 S 14th Street. Lincoln, NE 68512. Enter through Gate 2. Stay to the right on the southernmost road in the grounds.
