She was born on December 18,1920 in Percival, Iowa to Sylis Wesley Snell and Maude (McKay) Snell. As a child, she loved playing the piano at her church with her siblings as they played other musical instruments, along with riding her pony to-and-from school. She married Ralph L. Foster on June 21, 1938. She worked for Russell Stover’s for 28 years and then at the University of Nebraska for 30 years, where she developed the love of Nebraska football as she got to meet the players while working her shifts.
Vernice is survived by her daughters, Donna R. (Foster) Hyde, Shirley A. (Foster) Peters with spouse Paul Peters, and Barbara J. (Foster) Schafer with spouse James Schafer; grandchildren, Robin E. Hyde (granddaughter), Michael J. Hyde (grandson), Doug M. Hyde (grandson), Carrinda L. (Easter) Davis (granddaughter), Lonnie D. Easter (grandson) and spouse Melissa Easter, Donald D. Hoffman Jr. (grandson) and spouse Laura Hoffman, Stacey J. (Hoffman) Sukovaty (granddaughter) and spouse Randy Sukovaty, Lisa M. (Hoffman) Strack (granddaughter) and spouse Joseph Strack, Jami L. (Croston) Dalchow (granddaughter) and spouse Andrew Dalchow, Kaycee J. (Foster) Bannister (granddaughter) and spouse Lucas Bannister. Predeceased by her husband, Ralph L. Foster in March 1981; grandson, Larry D. Easter in July 1985; and son, Bruce L. Foster in April 2006.
A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, June 29th, 2024 at 11:00 am at Lincoln Memorial Park and Cemetery, 6700 S. 14th St., Lincoln, NE 68512.
She was our rock; she was our soldier. If Vernice loved you, you know it because you would become a part of the “Get Thrown under the Bus” Club. She loved hard, she loved fiercely, and she loved without reservation. Everyone should be so lucky to have the power of that kind of love as her legacy in their life.
