Robert William Parker, age 77, of Omaha, NE passed away peacefully on November 26, 2023. He was born on November 5, 1946, to parents William Eugene Parker and Florence Nell (Petrea) Parker, in Pawnee City, NE
He graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School, in 1964 and earned his college degree in Sociology from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1969.
Bob's interest in Sociology led him to a career in law enforcement, joining the Omaha Police Department in 1971. Thirty years later he retired as a Lieutenant. He worked his way up the ranks, from a Cruiser Officer, to the Detective Bureau, Crime Analysis Team and Commander of the SWAT Team (ERU). He retired from OPD in 2001.
Bob is survived by his wife of 42 years, Vona (Merritt) Parker of Omaha; son Matthew Parker of Omaha; daughter Kimberly Parker of New York City, NY; brother Larry (Marjorie) Parker of Lincoln, sisters Kathryn Parker and Deborah Stark both of Lincoln, granddaughter Katelynn Dietz of Omaha, nephew Travis (Kasey) Parker of Lincoln, niece Laurisa (Tim) Richter of Omaha and countless friends. He was preceded in death by son Andrew Parker, brother-in-law Thomas Stark, parents William and Florence, and mother-in-law Margie Dahlgran.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the COPS Foundation (Concerns of Police Survivors). Please make checks payable to COPS Foundation and include in cards to family.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at Christ United Methodist Church, 4530 A St., Lincoln, NE, with luncheon to follow.
