Richard Harris went to his Heavenly Father Tuesday, December 22nd, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born February 23, 1941, to Richard and Vera Harris in Reno, Nevada. After graduating from highschool in California, he moved to Nebraska where he attended the University of Nebraska, graduating in 1965 with a degree in History and Political Science.
Richard entered the Army where he was active duty until 1971 and remained in the Army Reserves, retiring after 20 years. After a stay in Missouri as an insurance investigator, Richard returned to Lincoln and worked for the Department of Corrections for 30 years. Richard was a very active member in the Free Masonry including Hickman Lodge 256, Sesostris Shrine, Scottish Rite, York Rite. Richard served as Worshipful Master of Bennet Lodge.
Richard enjoyed being a Masonic Service Representative to the Lincoln VA Hospital and being a Keystone Kop in the Annual Shriners Circus. He remained active in the community volunteering at the Lincoln Food Bank and CHI St. Elizabeth's Hospital.
Richard will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of a good flannel shirt, sharing some laughs along with a few salty stories and a detailed history lessons over a cup of coffee. He will be loved and missed.
Richard is preceded in death by father, Richard Harris, mother, Vera (Elmer) Liske, and step-father.
He is survived by his best friend in life and wife of 23 years, Nancy, and his five children; Jeff, Troy (Elise), Stephanie, Greg (Jessica) and Brenda Fox, step daughters Sarah (Doug) Einspahr and Laura (Darrin) Welchert, 14 grandchildren; Anna Harris, Sam Harris, Max Harris, Mattie Harris, Bradley Einspahr, Breanne Einspahr, Evan Einspahr, Anna Welchert, David Welchert, Mary Welchert, John Welchert, Daniel Welchert, Jude Welchert, Joseph Welcert, one great granddaughter, his brother Larry (Deb) and sister Marilyn (Charles) Gibson, nephew Richard (Julie), and 6 additional nieces and nephews.
Public visitation will be Tuesday, December 29, 2020, 5-7pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. 6800 S. 14th St., Lincoln, NE 68512. Private Family Service on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, that will be livestreamed for the public at 10:00am. Please follow the link below on the day of the service to view the livestream. Interment will be open to the public Wednesday, December 30, 2020, 11:00am, at Lincoln Memorial Park. 6700 S. 14th St., Lincoln, NE 68512. Public will meet at gate 2 at the cemetery and will follow the funeral procession.
