Orrin was born February 7, 1940 in Clinton, Iowa to J.F. Wilson and Ruby (Darling) Wilson. He attended Shattuck Military School and Clinton High School where he graduated in 1958. In 1960, Orrin married his high school sweetheart, Jan (Detlefsen). Orrin attended the University of Iowa and graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. He also did graduate work at Stanford University, Northwestern University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Orrin served in the US Army and US Army Reserves from 1963 until he was honorably discharged in 1969.
Orrin joined the Northern Trust Company in Chicago, Illinois in 1962 where he was named Vice President in 1976.
Orrin and his family moved to the Woodscrest Neighborhood of Lincoln, Nebraska in 1980 where he joined First National Bank and Trust Company (now US Bank) as Senior Executive Vice President. He was also a member of the Board of Directors. Orrin became Bank President in 1987 and retired in 2000, completing a 38 year career in banking. Orrin’s civic involvement in Lincoln was extensive. He was President of the Lincoln Community Development Partnership, Board Chairman of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Bryan/LGH Health Systems, Honorary Chairman of the Midlands Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Co-Chairman of the Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development. Orrin was a Board Member of the Equity Fund of Nebraska and University of Nebraska Wesleyan and Trustee of the University of Nebraska Foundation. He was a member of the Mayor’s Community Cabinet, United Way, Board of Governors, Junior Achievement and Cabela’s and World’s Foremost Bank. Orrin’s awards and recognition were many including the second recipient of the Burnham Yates Citizenship Award. He was involved in many civic causes and social efforts including co-founding the Lincoln Food Bank and Paint-a-Thon.
Orrin was a member of the First Plymouth Church and Lincoln Country Club.
Orrin enjoyed spending time with his family during the summers in Estes Park, Colorado and winters in Captiva, Florida. He was an avid Husker and Hawkeye fan and appreciated socializing with his friends, banking colleagues and fellow Lincoln Country Club members.
Orrin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jan; sons and daughters-in-law, Brent and Cheri (Melot) Wilson, Blake and Lisa (Lewandowski) Wilson, Brad and Kim (Toczek) Wilson; grandchildren, Ryan Wilson, Nathan Wilson, Orrin and Mackenzie (Taylor) Wilson, Bryce and Mikayla (Kreifels) Wilson, Brooks Wilson, Molly Wilson, Connor Wilson, Betsy Wilson, and great granddaughter Sheree. Orrin was preceded in death by his father and mother, J.F. and Ruby Wilson, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wesley and Bernice Detlefsen, brother, John Fredrick Wilson and sisters Mary Louise Wilson and Jane Bather.
A private family Memorial Service will be held at Lincoln Memorial with a Celebration of Life at a later date.
Memorials may be offered to the Lincoln Food Bank, Lincoln United Way, Lincoln Children’s Zoo or the Lincoln Paint-a-Thon
