Nancy Caroline Obermeyer was born October 25, 1935, in Columbus, NE, to parents, Arthur and Cressa Anderson. She was baptized at the Congregational Church in Genoa, NE. Nancy had 4 other siblings; Ralph, Ike, Harriet, and Gail. Growing up on a farm, Nancy’s father gave the 3 oldest children a calf to raise. They could do whatever they wanted with the calf, so Nancy sold her calf to buy a sewing machine. She was an avid seamstress, making wedding dresses, prom dresses, and altering and preparing clothes for people.
During Nancy’s high school career, she was involved in the Pep Club, the FHA, and showed sheep at the county fair. Nancy and her siblings could not participate in after school athletics due to their responsibilities on the family farm. She was always a hard worker. When Nancy was 14, Granny took Gail and Harriet to visit Grandad’s aunts, and while they were gone, Nancy did all the cooking and canning from the family garden. She was an excellent cook. She had many personal recipes that could not be duplicated. Nancy graduated from Genoa High School in 1953 and attended UNL for 1 year. Also, working at Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph.
On August 6, 1956, Nancy eloped and married Victor Hoggins in Council Bluffs, IA. They were married for 33 years. To this union, 7 children were born; George, Kendall, Gretchen, Victor Jr, Tracy, Caroline, and Lorna. The family lived in Neligh, Superior, and Milford, NE. While living in Neligh, Nancy worked for 12 years at a hospital and nursing home as a Nurse’s Aide, and would assist Vic with his hatchery business. In Milford, she worked for 5 years as a Nurse’s Aide for a nursing home. She later worked concurrently for SCC, for 25 years, as a Production Clerk, and for 20 years at Shop EZ.
