Lloyd was born on January 24th, 1929 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Robert and Zelma Blackburn. He grew-up in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln High School. In the late 1940s Lloyd enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in Louisiana, Brazil and England. Following his release from active duty, Lloyd began his career in the Water Resources Division of the US Geological Survey. Lloyd completed over 30 years of government service with the USGS. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work and dedication.
Lloyd loved books, he enjoyed reading about the First and the Second World Wars, the ancient cultures of Central and South America, the archaeology of the Holy Lands, and world geography. He also enjoyed reading British murder mysteries, watching British TV series and listening to traditional music of Ireland, Scotland and England. Lloyd loved being out outdoors and treasured his long walks around Holmes Lake in Southeast Lincoln. Lloyd was a very kind and thoughtful person, a real gentleman and a wonderful uncle and friend.
Lloyd is survived by his nieces, Nancy Harms (Mel) and Suzanne Bradford (Chris); nephew, Robert Simpson (Jane Whitehead); great nieces, Kim Choma, Nicole Platine, and Katey Platine; and great nephews, Todd Walters (Marcia), Doug Ivey (Beth), and Patrick Simpson (Amanda). He also leaves behind several great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Zelma; his brothers, Robert and Orville; sisters, Viola Blauvelt and Betty Jane Blackburn - Simpson; and niece, Heather Platine and nephew Karl Blauvelt. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held for family and friends on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Lincoln Memorial Park. We will meet at gate 2 at 10:45 am and process to the mausoleum for entombment. 6800 S 14th Street, Lincoln, NE 68512.
