Joseph Niess

Joseph Niess, 81 of Lincoln, passed away on April 4, 2015. He was born October 3, 1933 to Joseph and Celia (Adams) Niess in Stacyville, Iowa. Joe joined the United States Army in May, 1953 and was honorably discharged in Jan. 1958. Joe graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, and worked as a chemical engineer until retirement. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Joe loved barbershop music and singing. He was a member of SPEBSQSA the Pathfinder Chorus, Lincoln Continentals and Lincoln Senior Chorus. He is survived by his brother Mathew; Sisters: Rita Niess Schrandt, Margaret Niess Tray and Joan Niess Koenigs; Sons: Joseph (Carolyn) Niess, of Silverpoint, TN, Jonathan (Geri) Niess of Deer Park, Texas, Christopher (Maria Pearson) Niess of Orlando Florida, David Niess of Fremont, NE, Andrew Niess of Omaha, NE; Daughters: Linda Orton of Ames, Iowa, Laura (Abraham) Salehi of Bartlett, TN; Step-daughters: Dianne (Doug) Kuppig of Lincoln, NE, Marla Nice and fiancé, Ray Bigler of Papillion, NE; 23 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; wives: Clara Nelle Niess and Norma Niess. Brothers: Edmund, Francis, Gus Sisters, Mary Niess Anderson, Helen Niess Bena, Celia Niess Guy, Sister Catherine OSF Step-sons, Dale Barry and Richard Barry. A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, April 14th at 10:00 a.m. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, interment at Lincoln Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be directed to Greater Iowa Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association or Tabitha Hospice of Lincoln, NE.
