John D. “Henry” Schroeder, age 75, passed peacefully on October 8, 2024, in Lincoln, at his home surrounded by family. Born in Lincoln to Harlan F. and Alice A. Schroeder. John lived his entire life in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1967. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the 25th Infantry Division as a Staff Sergeant.
John later received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln in Natural Resources.
John married Karen Gross June 10, 1972, at St. Paul United Methodist Church. They later had two children, Daniel and Katie. He owned and operated Henry’s Paint Contracting for over thirty years. It was a great joy of his to do painting for his family and friends and the many great customers he worked for through the years. John took pride in his own restoration of his 1930 Model A Ford and was a former and current member of the Model A Ford Club of America.
John is preceded in death by his parents, brother Larry Schroeder, sister Shirley (John) Lape, and sister Janice Schroeder.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen Schroeder; son Dan (Shauna) Schroeder, Lincoln, NE; daughter Katie (David) Mellen, Shawnee, KS; grandchildren Aidan, Leo, and Jake Mellen; brother Jim (Vicki) Schroeder; sister Judy (Randy) Johnson; sister-in-law Kate Schroeder; brother-in-law Tom (Pat) Gross; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Per John’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and inurnment will take place later. No memorial service. Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date.
