George E. Rejda, age 90, died April 28, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 4, 1931 in Omaha, NE. George was in the United States Marine Corps and graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He was Emeritus Professor of Finance, University of Nebraska - Lincoln. While at UNL, he held a chaired position for 22 years as V.J. Skutt University Professor of Insurance. He was a nationally known expert on private and social insurance programs and past president of the American Risk and Insurance Association. George's textbook, Principles of Risk Management and Insurance, currently in the fourteenth edition, is widely used by institutions throughout the United States. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church where he was active in St. Vincent DePaul Society.
George was united in marriage to Lu (Sercl) Rejda for 58 years, and is survived by his twin sister Betty (Ed) Lastovica of Yutan; four children, Ken Rejda of Lincoln, Bob (wife Jill) Rejda of Minneapolis, Minn., Patti (husband Bernie) Gillogly of Dallas, and Karen (husband Dr. Chris Swift) Swift of Lincoln; nine grandchildren: Danielle and Mallory Ruel, Alex and Jeremy Rejda, Kelsi and Alexis Gillogly, Christian, Patrick and Nic Swift; and four great grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his wife, Lu, and his parents, Emil and Margret Rejda.
Rosary at 9:30 a.m followed by Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, May 3, at St Michael's Catholic Church, 9101 South 78th St., Lincoln. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Park. The family requests masses for George in lieu of flowers. Condolences may be left at www.lincolnfh.com.
