Leon was born on June 30, 1932 in Lincoln, to Francis and Maureen (Stone) Lehr.
On September 15, 1951 Leon married Renee Kruse in Lincoln, NE. They were married for almost 70 years at the time of Leon’s passing. Together they raised four sons.
Leon was very active in sports and was a member of State Championship Football and Basketball teams at Lincoln Northeast High. He was a multi-sport athlete at Nebraska Wesleyan during his college years. He served as a High School and College Referee for 35 years, and was Commissioner of the Lincoln Little Chiefs Baseball Association. Through his involvement in athletics and officiating he made countless numbers of friends.
After earning his degree from Nebraska Wesleyan in 1954, he began teaching High School and coaching in Iowa.
In 1957, he returned to Lincoln and began working at Security Mutual Life and retired as chief underwriter. He then worked 10 years as an account representative at Dain Rauscher.
Leon loved to have fun, and enjoyed going to sporting events. He was an avid gardener, a very devoted husband, father, and grandparent and always had family as his top priority in life.
Leon is survived by wife Renee; Sister: Diane (Jay) Milligan, Darby, Montana; Children: Mike (Debbie) Lehr, Lincoln; Dave (Susie) Lehr, Lincoln; Rob Lehr, Pleasant Dale, NE; Dan (Sandy) Lehr, Waverly, NE; Grandchildren: Matt (Holly) Lehr, Jack Lehr, Jeremiah (Jaimee) Lehr, Jamie (Andy) Drake, Katie (Matt) Philippi, Brandon Lehr, Brett Lehr, Joshua (Theresa) Lehr; Great-Grandchildren: Peyton Lehr, Kaeden Lehr, Carly Drake, Raegan Lehr, Molly Drake, Amelia Lehr, Lenox Lehr, Wyatt Philippi.
