Donald "Don" Eugene Halterman, 96, passed away on December 10, 2024 in Lincoln, NE. Don was born May 15, 1928 to James Raymond Halterman Sr. and Ida Wuttke Halterman. He attended school in Norborne, Missouri. He served in WWII in the Army/Airforce. He graduated from electronic school in Chicago in 1951. He then owned and operated a successful TV sales and service called Don’s TV service in Manhattan, Kansas for 30 years.
In 1949, Don met his future wife, Betty "BJ" Halterman and they were united in marriage on October 8, 1950. They were married for 74 years and from their union were blessed with four daughters. They made their home in Manhattan, KS for 31 years before moving full time to Mesa, AZ in 1996. In April 2024, they moved to Lincoln, NE to be closer to their kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
Don was an avid K-State football fan. They held season football tickets when they lived in Manhattan. He would always wear purple on games days no matter where he was. He attended many K-State bowl games over the years. He was a lover of golf and had many holes “in one” over the years. He loved the game of golf and was a regular golfer for over 60 years. He golfed 2-3 times a week until the age of 90 when he lost his eyesight due to macular degeneration. He loved beating people younger than him on the golf course. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He took many trips with his friends to Canada, and the Pacific Northwest. He had multiple hunting dogs he used in his hunting excursions.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and his brother James Raymond Sr. and his sister Viola Heil. He is survived by his wife, BJ and his daughters: Deb Selix (John) of Lincoln, NE, Vicki Letourneau of Leawood, KS, Sherri Shawgo of Bentonville, AR and Lori (Tom) Wikoff of Brookville, KS. He is also survived by his 6 beloved grandchildren: Bryan, Hayli, Ashley, Ryan, Trisha, and TJ and 17 great grandchildren. He is survived by his two brothers, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private celebration of life at a future date.
