Charles E. Hines, age 91, died on May 29, 2019 at the Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln.
Born August 28, 1927, in Omaha, the oldest son of John Edward Hines and Josephine Emily (Besta) Hines.
He graduated from South High School in Omaha, and then served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. After the war ended, he attended the University of Nebraska, College of Engineering, where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1951. He went to work as a Design Engineer for Dutton-Lainson Company in Hastings for 4 years, then Cushman Motors, Outboard Marine Corporation in Lincoln as a Senior Design Engineer, later earning his Professional Engineer (P.E.) license. During his 30 year career, he worked together with a team of innovative Engineers to secure numerous Patents for Outboard Marine Corporation.
After retiring from Outboard Marine Corporation, “Grampa Charlie” enjoyed various wood-working projects, including designing and building wooden “Bear Chairs” for hundreds of lucky children!
He married Carla Sivinski on June 10, 1950 in Omaha, NE. To this union they had six children: Debbie (John) Russnogle, Nancy (Kent) Reckewey, Stephanie (Jim) Moran, Ed (Nancy), Jeff (Trudy) and Joel Hines; and now has 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Charlie was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy; his parents; sister Arlean Suchan; and brothers Dale, Vern, Gene, and Earl Hines.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Monday, June 3, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 7900 Trendwood Drive Lincoln, NE. A reception will immediately follow the service. Memorials may be given to the Pregnancy Center in Lincoln. Condolences: lincolnfh.com
