Cathy May Hartman, age 76, passed away peacefully on October 15th after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She fought cancer with amazing strength and dignity. Her beautiful smile and love of life will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Cathy was born on April 13, 1947, in Alliance, Nebraska to James Richard and Mary Josephine (Bennett) Haddix. She was the eldest of six children. The role of big sister was very important to Cathy, and she enjoyed helping her beloved mother take care of her younger siblings. Cathy was raised in Oshkosh, Nebraska and attended Garden County High School, graduating in 1965. She also attended the University of Nebraska- Lincoln. While growing up Cathy loved reading, riding horses, cheerleading, vocal music, and theater.
Cathy married her high school sweetheart, Cleve Hartman, on October 28th, 1966. They were married in Lincoln, Nebraska at the United Methodist Church on the University of Nebraska campus. After graduation, Cathy and Cleve moved to Omaha while Cleve pursued a medical degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. During this time, Cathy was busy raising three young children Holly, Heather, and Jason. After Cleve completed his family practice residency, they moved to North Platte to build a medical practice and raise their family.
Cathy was a devoted wife and mother and loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed watching her kids in their many activities and was always supportive. Cathy had many hobbies including reading, painting, gardening, antiquing, and interior design. She loved entertaining, playing bridge with her friendship group and being a member of PEO. She was also a loving dog mom.
After retiring, Cathy and Cleve moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to be closer to their children and grandkids. One of Cathy’s greatest joys in life was being a grandma. As a grandma she was generous, fun, loving and kind. She was proud of all her grandchildren and loved attending their events.
Cathy is survived by Cleve, her husband of 57 years, daughters Holly Hartman Glenn (Dustin Kellner), Heather Stroh (Stephen) and son, Jason Hartman (Holly), and her cherished grandchildren: Chloe May, Shelbe, Jacie, Joshua, Josie, Austin, and bonus granddaughter Kaelie. She is also survived by her sister Mary Jo Mathews (Bill), and brothers, Jim Haddix (Becky), Lynn Haddix, Donald Haddix (Justine), Perry Haddix (Nancy), sisters-in-law, Shelie Hartman-Gibbs (Gerald) and Dana Hartman, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Richard Haddix and Mary Jo Haddix and In-laws Herbert and Shirley Hartman.
A visitation for Cathy will be held Sunday, October 22, 2023, 3:00-4:00 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be following the visitation from 4:00-5:00 pm. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68512. A reception follows immediately after the service. A private burial service will be held in Oshkosh, Nebraska at a later date.
