Louis Perkins, Jr., 76, of Lima, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family at 6:39 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2017. He was born June 23, 1940 in Florence, AL to Louis “Tiger” and Ruth Mae “Etoy” (Mason) Perkins, Sr, who preceded him in death. He had been previously married to Madeline Haithcock who survives and Helen Jean Perkins-Alexander who preceded him in death. For the past 35 years, he has shared his life with his special companion, Diane Walker who survives in Lima, OH.
Also surviving are his children: Keith (Lisa) Perkins of Dayton, OH, Kimberly Perkins and Kevin Perkins, both of Peoria, IL, Teresa (Tyrone) Johnson of Saginaw, MI, Rosalyn “Renee’” Perkins and Hershal “Lamar” Herring both of Lima and Carmen Perkins of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Annie Louise Perkins-Thompson of Florence, AL; 20 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren; a special cousin Felix Armstead and special friends Phil and Doris Orpurt all of Lima; plus a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Maurice Perkins, a brother, John Edward “Jimbo” Perkins and a sister, Lena Mae Mason.
Louis retired as a press operator at Sheller Globe after more than 25 years and retired again in 2015 as a machine operator at Ply Gem in Sidney, OH. He was a 1959 graduate of Lima Senior High School where he played football, basketball and baseball. He was an avid bowler and was the coach for the Sparky Fantastics Softball Team. He was the rock of his family and a jack-of-all-trades, he loved cooking and was known for his barbequed ribs.
His funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2017 at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, with the Reverend Earnest Stephens and Reverend Tony Joiner officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. on Friday until the time of the service in the funeral home.
