Thelma was born in Jamaica to Edward Charles Gunther and Elma Viola Clarke. She is preceded in death by both parents and a sister, Edna Clarke.
In the 1970's Thelma immigrated to the United Kingdom and became a citizen. She later immigrated to New York. She settled into Brooklyn where she was a seamstress for many years.
In 2014 she relocated to Bear Creek, NC. She later moved to Siler City where she resided with the Penn family until her departure.
Thelma was a very private person. But she loved the Lord and studied her Bible daily until the end. Thelma also spent time serving as a missionary. It didn't matter where she went, God was the topic of the conversation. Thelma created her family members over the years. She was a faithful member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church. Her dear friend Randy faithfully picked her up every Sunday for church. And she looked forward to her outings. She lived a simple life, she didn't ask for much. Avocados were on her list! She was always thoughtful of others feelings and made a friend every where she went.
Although, Thelma was ready to be reunited with her Savior and family on the other side; she will be sorely missed here. We will love her always. May she rejoice in Heaven until we meet again.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 5 pm at Rives Chapel Baptist Church, 4338 Rives Chapel Church Road, Siler City, NC.
