Robert "Bob" Lee Hutton, 94, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 after a brief illness. He was a 1949 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received a BS in Commerce, was an officer in his fraternity, Phi Gamma Delta, and was inducted into the Order of the Old Well. Bob was a veteran of the US Army, serving at Fort Monmouth in the Signal School, Instruction Company A as a Corporal from 1951 to 1952. He retired as Vice President National Accounts from Crawford Manufacturing Company and served as President of the National Curtain, Drapery, and Allied Products Association. He was a founding member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Warren, NJ. Bob was competitive distance swimmer for the UNC-CH swim team and for the US Army. In addition to swimming, Bob was an avid tennis player. He and Grace enjoyed international travel throughout their marriage. A true Southern gentleman with a wonderful sense of humor, he was dearly loved by family and friends.
Born in Greensboro, NC, Bob was the son of the late James Laurence Hutton and the late Hazel France Lee Hutton. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Grace Bunker Hutton; his brother, James Laurence Hutton, Jr.; and his sister, Lois Hutton Keels.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Martha Carrellas (Stephen) of Berkeley Heights, NJ, and Cynthia Wenger (Stephen) of Mebane, NC; grandchildren, Kathryn Grace Wenger of Madison, WI and Daniel Lee Wenger of Mebane, NC; nephews, James Hutton, III (Cindy) of Norfolk, VA, Harold Keels, Jr., of Henderson, NC, Robert Cianfrone (Tatrina) of Santa Monica, CA, John Cianfrone (Michele) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Scott Bunker (Paulette) of Mount Airy, MD; nieces, Nora Shepard (Robert) of Davidson, NC, Jane Haynes (Stephen) of Asheville, NC, Elizabeth Ledbetter (William) of Spartanburg, SC, and Kari Wilson (Charles) of Poolesville, MD; and many beloved great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 15 at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Warren, NJ. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
