Mr. Hamer has been a favorite of mine for a very long time.    He always had time to listen to me and gave me some of the best advice next to my dad's.   I looked up to him like an uncle I never had.   I will always be thankful for the conversations and the time we were able to spend together.

Mr. Hamer was such a loving person at Food Lion.  He went out of his way to make you feel welcome. One night about store closing time 8 years ago, my Goddaughter Olivia and I went in the Food Lion.  Mr. Hamer greeted us and ask Olivia if she liked this Toy Story bowl. Of course her answer was yes!  Mr. Hamer gave her this Toy Story bowl.  She still eats cereal out of this bowl!!!  After the kind impression he made in her life, she would look for him when we went in the store to run and give him a big hug!!  Mr. Hamer (Mr. Food Lion to us) will truly be missed. R.I.H. Mr. Hamer!  With deepest sympathy and continued prayers for Tina and the family.

Thinking of Tina...I am so glad I got to meet John... Very Sweet and Gentle.


Tina, I can not count the years of friendship and love we have shared throughout the years. I am so happy that you and John found one another. He was the sweetest man I knew. And worshiped you so much. You completed him. His exact words one day. Sending you many prayers and my sincerest condolences.

John I have known you for 40 years and I will surely miss you. We go all the way back to  when you worked part -time at what I think was Lo-Mart at  the time.  Our paths separated for many years until you called me to work with you at Food Lion in Chapel Hill. Our paths  separated once more until you came To Liberty. We have had many great talks over the years and I will miss that also. Our paths will cross again . See you then My Friend.

So sorry to hear this. Enjoyed working with him at Byrds Food Store. RIP Johnny, oh, the pranks you guys enjoyed pulling while stocking those shelves.

My thoughts and prayers are with all the family at this time of great sorrow.  Mr Hamer was always so kind and always willing to help all customers at the Food Lion in Liberty.  I missed seeing him after he retired. Hugs and love to all of the family. God be with especially now and always. Ellen Carter Luck

Life is unfair at times! 
We don’t understand but we have to accept and try to heal and move on but this will be by far one of the hardest thing to do. 😭

I will always be BLESSED that you were apart of my life. The best 7ish years I had!! Blessed you took us under your wing. Just like we were your own & we’ll always be your kids and “grandkids”. You had the tough love we all needed ￼at times and even the mean love we need tooo. You always kept us in good spirits no matter what was going on!! I will miss our bad weather rides with the Christian music blasting. And the love hate talks we had. The visits junior just about ran you over by running to give you hugs! We have sooo many good memories that will be cherished!! & cherish that you’d give us the shirt off your back for us!You have taught us a lot about life. Their sure will be NO OTHER like you!! 💙

Your non speller😂& “rocket” up the butt will love you ALWAYS!! As I promise you the kids will be taken care of!! I just pray we all find comfort, I know you’d be talking crap to us to not be this way & want us to party but how can you when you had a HUGE impact on us!! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH OLD MAN!!!

I always enjoyed working with Mr. Hamer at Food Lion, he was a dedicated employee, and a good friend, even before I began working with him! I will miss him, along with many other friends and family that knew Mr. Hamer.  Prayers for Tina, and his family!🙏
