Mrs. Cox was born on April 24, 1934 in Dublin, VA to the late Jesse and Anna (Annie) Harris Robertson. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Cox, and her sisters, Arlene Ellis and Ruth Hurd.
Mrs. Cox is survived by her children, Linda Carver, Debbie Williams, Rita Ferree, Jimmy Cox, Jeff Cox, and Mike Cox, her grandchildren, Candy Hinshaw (Josh), Derek Ferree, Jennifer Williams, Trecie Scriber (Matt), Matthew Ferree (Paula), and Abigail Cox, and her great grandchildren, Heather, Alaina, Cole, Ella, Kayla, Scarlett, and Lucas, and her sister, Ethel Gallimore.
Mrs. Cox loved attending Macedonia Baptist Church, of which she was a member. She worked most of her life in the furniture industry and was employed by Founders, Hooker, and Thomasville Furniture and made many friends during her career of over 37 years. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, and canning vegetables from her garden. She was a master chef at cooking fish and game that her boys brought home, and she taught her family great home cooking. She loved trying out new recipes. Her mountain values guided her throughout all her days and have shaped her children.
Most of all, Mrs. Cox loved gathering with her family and friends. She always looked forward to the time she spent every Thursday morning with her “Breakfast Girls.”
The family would like to express their love and thanks to everyone for their prayers and support during this difficult time. They are truly thankful and blessed to have had Ida for their own.
