Harold served his country in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 and continued his service in the US Army Reserve until 1962. After his time in the service, Harold began a lifelong career as a farmer. He passionately grew his business through the years, farming mostly tobacco and cattle in Julian, Mebane and Carthage. Through hard work and dedication, Harold took farmland that was undesirable and significantly improved it. Harold always stated, “I planted the crops, and the Lord gave the harvest.” He and Mildred were members of Putnam Friends Meeting and their home church, Glenwood Friends Meeting in Greensboro. Harold’s hope for his family was that they would come to know the Lord as their Savior.
