Charles Russell Kuhn, 87, died of heart failure on August 23, 2010 after a brief illness. Since 2005, Charlie with his wife Elizabeth (Lib) had resided at Friends Home West in Greensboro. A native of Raleigh, he lived for 50 years in Liberty, NC, where he was a leader in civic and church affairs. He was a former member of the Liberty Town Council, a past president of the Liberty Rotary Club, chairman of the Liberty ABC Board, and held various volunteer positions as a Deacon and member of First Baptist Church of Liberty.
A veteran of WWII and a cum laude graduate of N.C. State University, he spent most of his professional life in management in the textile industry with Allsheer Hosiery Mills and later with Kellwood. He subsequently became Assistant Superintendent of the Randolph County Public Schools, from which he retired in 1985.
He is survived by his wife 63 years, Lib; his son, Charles Kuhn, Jr. of Greensboro; and his daughter, Nancy Kuhn and son-in-law, Roy Henwood of Washington, DC; granddaughter, Ashley Kuhn of California; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Kuhn, Sr. and Annie Kuhn of Raleigh; and brothers, Frank Kuhn, Jr. and Bill Kuhn of Spartanburg, SC. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on August 27 at First Baptist Church, 659 S. Fayetteville St., Liberty, with visitation at Friends Homes West, 6100 W. Friendly Ave., at 2:00 p.m. on August 28. Private interment will occur later at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Liberty, or the Residents’ Assistance Fund at Friends Homes West.
