Brenda Pike Shelton, 83, of Liberty, N.C., passed away at her home on Sunday, April 7, 2024 after a long illness. Brenda retired as Director of Human Resources at Guilford Mills, Inc. She began her Human Resources career at Texfi Industries, Inc., where she worked for 18 years and made lasting friends.
Brenda was a lifelong dedicated member of Rocky River Friends Meeting in Siler City, NC, where she was a life member of the United Society of Friends Women, a Sunday School teacher, elder, choir member, and chaired and participated in many committees throughout her adult life. Two special interests were the Tracy J. Pike USFW circle, and the Library and Reading course.
Brenda served on the Board of Trustees for Friends Homes, Inc. for several terms.
Lover of books and reading, she also served as a Liberty Public Library board member for many years.
Flower gardening and arranging was a passion and talent, and Brenda was a Lifetime member of The Rose Garden Club of Liberty, holding many offices in the club during her 50-plus years as a member.
Art was another passion, she painted in various media for over 50 years. Combining her interests, she especially enjoyed watercolors and painting flowers.
Her husband, Wade, presented her with a Paul Harris Fellow recognition in the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International in 2009.
Daughter of the late J. Earle and Tracy J. Pike, and niece of the late Marian Pike Drury, she is survived by her husband of 64 years, Wade T. Shelton; daughters, Sloan S. Dodson and husband, Stan and Traci S. Cossman and husband, David; grandson, Corbin Dodson; granddaughter, Carmen Dodson; sister, Hilda P. Gregson; brother, Blake Pike; nephew, Tripp Gregson; niece, Kara J. Sheppard and husband, Ben; and great-nieces, Abby Gregson, Olivia Gregson, and Maddy Sheppard. Brenda is also survived by close friends and classmates from Liberty High School, Linda Fogleman, Sue Fogleman, Helen Teter, and Sarah Shoffner.
Brenda included Wade’s family as hers, with a number of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. She loved every one of them.
The family would like to thank the many family and friends who called, sent cards, brought food, prayed and visited during the past few months. And special thanks to Hospice of the Piedmont for their loving care in recent weeks.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Rocky River Friends Meeting, 1795 Staley Snow Camp Road, Siler City, N.C.; burial will follow in the Meeting cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation in the fellowship hall from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. and also following the service.
