Virginia was born in Buffalo, Missouri on July 11, 1941 to Clyde and Jane Mashburn. She was one of four siblings and lived in Buffalo until she moved to Springfield after high school graduation. She was very active in high school participating in orchestra playing violin and competing at state competitions and the Drum Corp, the Buffalo Gals. She attended Missouri State for two years and worked for Southwestern Bell starting as a telephone operator then taking advantage of advancement opportunities became an installer for the rest of her career.
Virginia moved to Kansas City, MO and continued to work for Southwestern Bell. She met the love of her life, Bobby D. Williams (Bob) of Urbana, MO and they married March 1, 1962. They moved to Liberty, MO in 1965 and made it their life long residence raising their two children Juliann W. Graves of Liberty, MO and Robert C. Williams of Liberty, MO.
Virginia led a very active lifestyle with her work, social life, many friends and the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She made the most of every day and her family always came first. Virginia was always ready for new adventures and loved to host all of her grandchildren for weekend visits, take her grandchildren to all the attractions that came to town and attend all of her grandchildren’s many activities. Virginia enjoyed taking care of her home, yard and beautiful flower gardens. She loved the Royals and enjoyed attending games and hardly ever missed watching the games on television. Virginia and Bob were members of a classic car club and attended car shows and outings with their many fellow car enthusiasts.
After retirement in 2002, she and Bob enjoyed traveling with friends and family. She loved taking the entire family to Disney World on two different occasions. Virginia went to Europe in 2008 with her granddaughter Jackie’s orchestra and it was one of her fondest memories to have seen so many different countries and cultures. Virginia said “she never regretted any vacation she ever took.”
Virginia is survived by her daughter Juliann and son Robert (Tena) and her grandchildren Rachel Graves of Liberty, MO; Jackie Williams (Nagesh Namana) of McKinney, Texas; Meredith Graves (Trevor Shepherd) of Liberty, MO; and Brandon Williams (Tabitha) and their sons Colton and Wyatt of Liberty, MO; her brother David Mashburn of Springfield, MO and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Dale Mashburn, sister Dorothy Lane, her husband Bob Williams and son in law Ted Graves.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Restoration 1894, 1 East Kansas Street, Liberty, MO 64068, on July 21, 2024 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. Please join family and friends to celebrate Virginia in your Royals gear!!! Please no flowers. Donations could be made to the Kansas City Royals Foundation.
