Andrea was born on August 19, 1970, in Okinawa, Japan to Roger and Karen (Pernula) Hintz. The family resided in the towns of Coon Rapids, Howell Michigan, Prior Lake, and then St. Peter, Minnesota. Andrea graduated from St. Peter High School and attended St. Cloud State University before transferring to Mankato State University to be near St. Peter to care for her ill mother. In 1995, Andrea married Anthony “Tony” Barnes and they welcomed their son, Carter in 2000. Andrea worked in the health care issuance profession, then in the mental health and chemical dependency fields. She was passionate about helping those who struggled with addiction and touched many lives.
In her free time, Andrea enjoyed travelling, and taking numerous iPhone photographs of anything she found intriguing. She was a mean Yahtzee player, and loved old Chevy trucks, watching movies and television. Andrea was passionate about politics and enjoyed listening to music. She valued nature, especially the stars, storms, and earthquakes. When she could get a free minute, she appreciated relaxing with a good book. Andrea treasured spending time with her family and her dogs Kennedy, Willy, Kramer, and Bear more than anything.
Andrea is survived and celebrated by her son, Carter Barnes of Hammond, Minnesota; her Special friend Grant Piepergerdes of Liberty, Missouri; her brother, Nathan (Jenny Fogarty) Hintz of Le Center; her sister, Anne Thayer of Minneapolis; her nephew Ethan (Christina) Hintz of Plymouth, Minnesota; her niece, Lauren Hintz of Le Center; and many, many friends and family.
Andrea was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Karen; Grandparents, Alvin and Ruth Pernula; Grandparents, Lionel and Thelma Hintz; and Uncle Greg Pernula.
