Phyllis Campbell Smith was welcomed home by her Heavenly Father on December 30, 2021. A graveside service at Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke, Virginia will be at a later date, where she will be buried next to her dear “Beau.”
Mrs. Smith, the widow of W. Everett “Beau” Smith, was born on January 26, 1928, in Roanoke Virginia, to G.L. and Dahlene Campbell. She is survived by two daughters, Gretchen S. Boeren, and Carol S. Clark, as well as grandchildren and nieces.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Radford University, where she was an Outstanding Senior, editor of the college newspaper, and a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. She did post graduate work at The University of Virginia, University of South Carolina, as well as Columbia College. She was a teacher at Highlands High School in Richmond, Virginia. She was also a substitute teacher in Lexington/Richland School District 5.
Mrs. Smith loved her friends, and led a very active life while living in Irmo. She was a member of Union United Methodist Church. She participated in a ladies circle and was a member of the Spirited Singers Choir. In her Sunday school class, she played the piano on many occasions, sharing her lifelong love of music with many. She was also a piano teacher in her home, for many a young person, hoping to keep piano music alive for the next generation.
As a music lover, Mrs. Smith was a member and past president of The Dutch Fork Music Teachers Organization. Friendships she made there lasted until her final days. She was a member of The Red Hat Society as well as two books clubs. She will always be remembered for her “tea time” with friends, and her impeccable baking skills.
