Pete was born on June 4, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Arthur M. and Marguerite (Boucher) Wickwire. Pete graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1951. He later earned a Master's degree in Engineering from The George Washington University. He received the Silver Star Medal for Gallantry in Action in Vietnam and the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service in Vietnam. Pete retired after 34 years of service in 1981.
Pete was passionate about his hobbies, including working out, flying his Luscombe airplane, woodworking and model building, shooting at the range, reading, and walking his dogs. He attended St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Lexington.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Wickwire (Brenda). He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Ford) Wickwire; three children, Michael Wickwire (Carol), Peter Wickwire, and Sandy Wickwire DeFrance (Jesse); his eight grandchildren, Angeli, Amber, Matthew, Amanda, Emily, Adam, Ryan and Wes and nine great-grandchildren, Mallory, Mason, Arianna, Avery, Quinn, Korbyn, Peter, Rane and Zoey.
