John Loren Collins, husband of Cathy Dever Collins, passed away on Saturday, June 16, at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC. John was born on December 20,1966 in Logan, West Virginia. He was the son of Lee and Elizabeth Sheppard Collins.
John grew up and lived in many places while his father served in the U.S.Army, but his favorite was Belgium. He graduated from Van High School in West Virginia and achieved his Associate Paralegal Degree. He spent time working in the coal mines as a young man, but his career was in management. Most recently he worked with Mars Pet Care in Columbia.
John met and married his very best friend, Cathy Dever on May 25, 2008. Together they have raised her daughter, Haley Cathleen Swett, and their son, Ethan Elihu Collins in the love and admonition of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife and children, and mother. He is also survived by his mother and father-in law, Mark and Julie McLean Dever, brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Jamie Baughman Dever, nieces Ashley, Rachel and Heather Dever, His son, John Loren Jr. and Christina Collins, His grandchildren, Audrey and Sawyer Collins, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father and his brother, James Collins.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the loving staff at Palmetto Health Heart Hospital, Dr. Patrick McCann, and all the staff of Carolinas Medical Center, who were with John every step of the way on his journey to a heart transplant. Although he did not have the outcome we had all hoped and prayed for, he was ever so grateful for the care he received along the way.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 22, 2018 from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Red Bank Baptist Church, 120 Community Drive, Lexington, SC 29073. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the church, with burial immediately following in the church cemetery.
