Mr. Hyatt graduated from Nile C. Kinnick American High School in Yokohama, Japan then attended US Army Engineer School (OCS) in Fort Riley, Kansas. He served in the US Army Corps of Engineers (Combat Engineers) from 1948 – 1968, retiring as Major, 51st Engineer Battalion, Third Army. He then served 20 years in the civil service and retired in 1990 as Engineering Logistics Commander, 101st Air Assault Division, Fort Campbell Kentucky. He lived in Clarksville, TN for 40 years before moving to Lexington, SC in 2008.
Mr. Hyatt is survived by his sons, James F. Hyatt II (Christa) of Greensboro, GA and John D. Hyatt (Monica) of Acworth, GA; daughters, Cindy J. Moore (Jimmy) of Lexington, SC and Susan K. Bowman of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Sara Williams (Chris) of Lexington, SC, Darren Hyatt (Lauren) of Atlanta, GA, Joshua Bowman of Raleigh, NC, Angela Hyatt of Acworth, GA, Johnathon Hyatt of Acworth, GA; great grandchildren, Alston Wingate of Lexington, SC, Brody Williams of Lexington, SC and Riley Hyatt of Atlanta, GA.
He was predeceased by his wife, Iva Jean Hurst Hyatt and daughter, Jackie Sue Hyatt.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2022 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
