Gerry Michael Spragg, Sr., 86, of Batesburg, SC passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. He was born on January 29, 1938 in Indianapolis, IN to Bertha Marie Cain and Gerry Louis Spragg.
Gerry was a proud graduate of Butler University. He was a chemist and served in the U.S. Army as a med tech while stationed in the 121st medical evacuation hospital, Seoul, Korea during the Vietnam era. In his free time, he was also an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. Gerry was very active in the community, and dedicated his time to serving others. In addition to being an active member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, he was a former Faithful Navigator of the Corpus Christi Council #11325. He served on the Trust Board of The Mid Carolina Electric Co-op, served on the board of the Saluda County Airport Commission, volunteered with the Saluda County Museum and served on the Executive Committee of the Saluda County GOP. Gerry grew up in a house full of sisters, meaning he had to have an unbridled sense of humor (in addition to an impeccable sense of fashion). He was good-natured, easy-going and had a heart of gold. He leaves behind a legacy of love and will be missed immensely.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Judy Spragg; son, LTC (R) Gerry Michael “Mike” Spragg, Jr (Terri) of Aiken, SC; daughters, MAJ (R) Cynthia “Cindy” Spragg (Joan Wunk) of Rock Hill, SC and Angela Swearingen (Reed) of Columbia, SC; son, COL (R) Erich Spragg (Heather) of New Market, AL; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren; sister, Milicent Nuebel of St. Petersburg, FL; brother-in-law, Stephen Marchino (Betsy); along with several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Charles Jason Spragg; and sisters, Patricia Scherer, Rosemary Spragg, Jacqueline Thanner, Jessica Eastridge, and Alexa O’Neil.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2350 Augusta Hwy, Lexington, SC 29072. The burial will follow promptly at 1:00 pm at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC 29229. Following the interment, the family will hold a celebration of life at 4:00 pm at 1056 Scooter Bridge Rd. Batesburg, SC 29006.
