On Friday, January 28, 2022, David Burrell lost his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 72. He was on hospice at his residence in West Columbia, SC where he resided for nearly 40 years.
He was born in New Albany, Indiana to Laverne Wilson and Ida Lois Burrell on May 27, 1949. He had four siblings: Lois, Rebecca, James, and Donna. After moving to South Carolina, he met his wife of over fifty-one years, Sheilah “Robin”, and they had three children together: Felicia, Shane, and Mary. He leaves behind four grandchildren: Jordan, Cole, Zeb and Kali and three adopted grandchildren: Skyler, Logan and Emory Jeffcoat, as well as a special niece, Allana.
With only a tenth grade education and a GED, David worked diligently in the construction industry to become a Vice President at MB Kahn Construction Company where he worked for over 37 years. He made many lifelong friendships during his time there.
In addition to working, David enjoyed Gamecock football and golfing. His greatest accomplishment was providing for his family and allowing us to have life experiences that he didn’t get to have as a child. He loved the lake and his favorite thing to do was to take boat rides and try to throw off whichever victim he had on the float into the water.
David was predeceased by his only son, David “Shane” Burrell, with whom he would like to share his memorial service. Services will be held on February 2, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, located at 503 North Lake Drive in Lexington, SC.
The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, to please make a donation to The Courage Center at pushpay.com/g/couragec?src=hpp. Make donations in memory of Shane Burrell.
