Austin graduated from White Knoll High School. He attended Lander University after high school before moving back to Lexington where he resided and worked throughout his life. He worked in the construction business and was currently employed at Fowler Hauling and Grading. He loved spending time outdoors, enjoying nature. Austin was a loving and devoted father to his daughter, Calla. He enjoyed spending time with her making things, playing on the lake and teaching her life skills like changing a tire.
In addition to his daughter, Calla Wood, Austin is survived by his wife, Jessica Kattenburg; parents, Frank Wood and Adam and Carolyn Steele; his brother and sister-in-law, Adam & McKenzie Steele and nephews, George and Jack Steele; his grandmothers, Doris Bumgarner and Lynette Steele; his grandfather, John Wood; his grandparents, Joe Frank and Sylvia Watson; great-grandmother, Elizabeth Hayes, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Austin was predeceased by his grandparents, Fran Wood, Perry Bumgarner and George Steele.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072. A funeral service will take place at 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at St. James Lutheran Church, 1358 South Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29073.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. James Lutheran Church.
