LEWISTON: John M. McQuarrie, 67, of Hallowell passed away on Wednesday May 23, 2018 at CMMC in Lewiston with his loved ones by his side. He was born in Castine on February 18, 1951 a son of the late Francis and Elizabeth (Weiberg) McQuarrie. He spent his early childhood in Stonington and at the age of 10 moved to the Lewiston area where he completed his schooling. He was a graduate of Lewiston High School, class of 1969. After high school, John worked as a carpenter building homes. During that time, he met and later married Carlene Smith on February 14, 1975 in Lewiston and they started a family together. While taking care of his family he worked as a kitchen cabinets salesman from 1986 to 1992 and then owned and operated a mobile concession stand for several years. In 2001 he started Manchester Pizza and ran it through 2002. After that, John and his wife ran cafeterias in several state office buildings. His last position was working in the concession at the Wiscasset Speedway with his companion Rhonda. John will always be remembered for his love of hockey, watching the Bruins and NASCAR and a passion for music, especially the Blues. He also found much joy in spending peaceful time by the ocean, listening to the waves and skipping stones. Spending time with his granddaughter brought out the brightest twinkle in Grampy’s eyes. John was a compassionate man who cared deeply for anyone with a need and would extend help if possible. He was very patriotic and held the highest regard for the Veterans he met along life’s journey. John touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all.
John is survived by his loving daughter, Julia Gibson and her husband Gary of Lewiston and his loving companion, Rhonda Bolduc of Norridgewock with whom he resided. He also leaves behind his granddaughter, Kaydence Gibson, his brother, Paul and his wife Cathy of Lewiston, his sister, Patricia Buxton and her husband Phil of Verona Island, his brother-in-law Ken Kuykendall of Chesapeake, VA along with two nephews, three nieces and many members of Rhonda’s family.
