1957 – 2024
James M. Morin, 67, of Lewiston died unexpectedly Thursday, December 5th, at Central Maine Medical Center, with his wife by his side, supported by friends and family.
Born in Lewiston on September 30, 1957, he was the son of H. Milton and Rita H. (Giguere) Morin.
Jim was a devoted father and grandfather with a generous and loving spirit. He worked seven days a week to provide for his children and support their college ambitions, and he never missed a chance to cheer for his grandchildren at any of their sporting events or activities. His children and grandchildren fondly remember spending many cozy evenings together, watching a movie with a big bowl of his famous popcorn.
He was a shift supervisor at Pioneer Plastics in Auburn before he became the owner of Jim’s Vending, a food service business he operated for many years at multiple locations in Maine, including PO Box Lunch in Portland and Rich’s Cafe in Augusta. Most recently, he worked as a bartender part-time at his beloved Webber Avenue Social Club as he enjoyed his retirement.
Jim and his six siblings were inseparable growing up, and no matter how many miles separated them, they remained a very close-knit family to the present day. An avid golfer and sports fan, Jim enjoyed horseshoes, bowling, softball, and hockey, and throughout his life he played on many weekly leagues with his wife, family, and friends. His years with the Lewiston Paint League and Senior League at Fox Ridge (golf), the Contractors League (hockey), and the Industrial Park League (bowling) brought him many joyful memories. He loved to spend every father’s day at Sugarloaf Golf Club, and he could often be found enjoying a beer and playing cards at the Webber.
Jim married his wife, Sue (Dumont) Morin, at Holy Family Church in Lewiston on June 9, 1978. They were high school sweethearts, and they celebrated 46 years of marriage this past June. They shared many happy anniversary trips to Boothbay Harbor, where they spent their honeymoon. For the last 8 years, Jim delighted in caring for their small dog, Zoe, who loved the games he invented for her and spent evenings curled up with him in his favorite recliner.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Sue, of Lewiston; children, Chad (Heidi) Morin of North Bethesda, Maryland and Kel (Melina) Morin of Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren, Brielle, Brady and Colby Morin; siblings, Michael Morin, Steve Morin (Jane), Linda Morin, Carol (Rich) Desjardins, Rachel Morin, and Randy (Karen) Morin; sisters-in-law, Diane (Rudy) Silva and Christine (Dave) Poulin; and nieces and nephews, Jeff Morin, Michelle Bruns, Shannon Wheaton, Sunsearae Fortin, Reza Morin, Cayce Morin, Eric Desjardins, Todd Desjardins, Mia Morin, Travis Morin, Francisco Silva, Gaetane Silva, and Christopher Poulin.
A Visitation for Jim will be held on Saturday, December 14th from 11AM to 1PM at the Fortin & Pinette Group in Lewiston, followed by a Liturgy of the Word.
