Constance (Connie) Faye Bowen, 89, went home to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior on February 8th. She was surrounded by her loving family and if love alone could have kept her here, she would have stayed forever. She was born on October 26th, 1934 in Sabattus, a daughter of Irving and Hazel Darling.
Connie attended Sabattus area schools where she participated in clubs and activities including basketball. She went on and married her loving husband, Donald Peter Bowen Sr of 60 years this past October 5th, 2023, and together they raised a family of 7 wonderful children. In her early years, she was an active member of the Community Baptist Church of Sabattus where she taught bible school, prepared communion, served on the fellowship committee and volunteered weekly to clean the Church building. Later, together with her husband, they served the Lord at Open Door Bible Baptist Church preparing school lunches for the Christian Academy. Connie enjoyed many hobbies including crocheting, sewing, and knitting. She especially loved knitting blankets, sweaters, hats, booties, scarves and more for her grandchildren and great children. Many to which have been in safe keeping and passed along to her great- great-grandchildren. They are cherished heirlooms that will continue to remind us of the feeling of being wrapped in nana’s love.
Along with serving the Lord, she was a faithful servant to her family. Sitting in a room filled with her children and grandchildren while enjoying donuts, cakes or cream horns was her favorite place to be. She was a “nana” to many far and near. Her greatest joy and pleasure were making memories with her family and the Lord blessed her with 89 full years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her 7 children, sons, Stanley and wife Tina, Anthony and wife Anna-Mae, Ricky and wife Lori, Donald Peter Jr and wife Lorraine, and their youngest son Mark, all of Lewiston, daughters Bonnie and husband Bob of Hudson, Florida, and Cindy and husband Steve of Wales, 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 1 sister Donna.
In addition to her parents, she is pre-deceased by brothers Everett, Lawrence, and Wesley Sr as well as sisters Laura, Roberta, and Christine.
The family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, and volunteers of the Androscoggin Hospice House. Because of this, loved ones are requesting in-lieu of flowers that donations be made to their facility at 236 Stetson Road, Auburn Maine 04210. The Hospice House is especially grateful for donations of bird seeds.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, February 12th, at 1100 AM, at Sabattus Community Baptist Church, 9 Main St. Sabattus, Me 04280. Committal services will be held later in the Spring at a time and day to be announced at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Sabattus.
