Born and raised in Philadelphia, Bill moved to the Quincy Hollow section of Levittown in 1955 when the development was first built. He took great pride in his lawn and was the envy of his friends and neighbors. Nobody could grow a tomato like Bill. His family would fight over who got the last one.
As a boy he enjoyed sports and played youth football for the Tulip Tigers (which apparently was a big deal). He loved participating in competitive sports such as racquet ball, softball, handball, and volleyball. He continued to stay active later in life, working out with the Silver Sneakers 3 times per week, where he was very popular with the ladies. If you went to Parx any given Thursday at 6am, you could find him playing the slots and cashing in his perks. He was an avid fan of the Phillies and Flyers, but much to the dismay of his family, he was not an Eagles fan.
There was nothing more important to him than spending time with his family, especially on vacations in Ocean City, Maryland where they looked forward to his famous pancake breakfast. Aside from his perfect pancake technique, he also passed down his incredible work ethic to his children and grandchildren. At 17 he began working at Hill Chase Steel as a helper, quickly working his way to shear operator and making manager by the time the company was purchased by Jorgenson Steel in 1966. He retired from Interstate Steel in 1998.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Joan (Griffith); his daughters Cindy (Tony) Coyle-Barile and Terry (Chris) Mallon; his son-in-law Brian Howell; his 8 grandchildren: LeeAnn (Mike) Fitzgerald-Gallagher, John (Patti) Heaton, Bill (Desiree) Coyle, Dan (Maureen) Coyle, Kevin and Sarah Howell, and Bridget and Molly Mallon; his 11 great grandchildren: Courtney, Madison, Bailey, Nick, Daniel, Brian, Chad, Billy, Brookelynn, Emma, and Hunter; his sisters Jean Lynch and Linda (Herb) Wiggins; and his sisters-in-law Marilyn Littleton and Dottie Griffith and special niece Regina Shields.
Preceded in death by his daughter Joan Howell; his parents, Medford and Elva (Newsome) Littleton; his brother, Med Littleton; and his sister, Elaine Domanico.
Please join us in celebrating his life on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 12:30 to 2:30 at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown.
