Thomas E. McDonald, of Levittown, PA, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather; passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 6th, 2023. He is survived by his children Thomas McDonald Jr. (Brenda), Edward McDonald (Pamela), Todd McDonald and Terrence McDonald (Mimi); 13 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; his sister, Marie Kowalick; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anne Marie McDonald (Devaney) and son, Timothy McDonald.
Thomas was born in Lost Creek, PA on July 29th, 1928, to Patrick and Marie McDonald. He graduated from West Mahanoy High School in 1946. He was a proud member of the United States Army from 1951 to 1956 achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was deployed to Germany during the Korean War serving in the Military Police (MP). After returning from Germany, he worked at an Acme Markets manufacturing facility in Philadelphia, PA for 30 years retiring at the age of 62. He spent much time at Acme Markets as the Bakery and Confectionery Union Shop Steward advocating for improving employee working conditions and negotiating union contracts. After retiring from Acme Markets, he began his second career at Saint Mary Medical Center as the Head of Security for 25 years. Everyone at Saint Mary Medical Center knew Tom, enjoyed his company, and kind helpful nature. He was the past president of the Middletown Athletic Association (MAA) coaching and mentoring many young players.
He was an avid collector of rare coins and baseball cards sharing their history and value with many friends and family. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons and grandsons throughout his life. He loved spending time at the racetrack betting on his favorite horse or gambling at a local casino. He enjoyed listening to Big Band music and watching the Phillies play baseball. One of his recent pleasures was spending time with his great granddaughter, Makayla, and great grandson, Mason, sharing some of the collectable toys he found during his life.
May he rest in peace, be reunited with those who went before him and may his strong spirit find comfort with God.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023, from 9:30 until 10:30 am at Queen of the Universe Church, 2443 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA, where his funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am. Burial will be private.
