Born to the late Stefan and Nascia (Klecor) Skaleski in East Liverpool, Ohio on April 24, 1933, he resided at 316 Grant Street for the first nineteen years of his life. He attended St. Aloysius Grade School where he played football and basketball.
Stephen attended East Liverpool High School where he played football and track for four years and basketball for one. He was elected vice-president of his freshman class, treasurer of his sophomore class, and president of his junior class. He was selected to attend Boys State and was an active member of the Hi-Y his last three years of school. He graduated in 1951.
Stephen spent a little over a year employed at Crucible Steel Company in Midland, PA. In October 1953, he married Joan L. McCoy. Three months later, he was drafted into the US Army. He was stationed in Okinawa and attained the rank of SP3. He was honorably discharged in November 1955.
In January 1956, Stephen and Joan relocated to Fairless Hills, PA, where Stephen began his employment with US Steel Corporation.
In 1959, he enrolled in Trenton State Junior College and took classes three nights a week. He earned an Associate's Degree in Electricity and Electronics in 1962.
Stephen coached CYO football at St. Frances Cabrini. He also coached little league baseball. He was the director of the Fairless Hills Swim Team for four years.
In 1978, Stephen joined the ranks of management at USS and became a maintenance supervisor. He remained in that position until he accepted an offer for early retirement in August 1986. However, in 1987, Stephen was asked to return to USS as a maintenance consultant. He worked for another five years.
Stephen was a member of Saint Frances Cabrini in Fairless Hills for 67 years, serving as an usher for many years.
In addition to his wife Joan, Stephen is survived by his children Debra Golbeski (Larry), Kathleen Clark (Bill), Sally Filotei (Jim), and Stephen (Juliet). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
