Seymour Sy Weinstein Sy Weinstein of Levittown died Oct. 1, at home. He was 81. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Laura B. Weinstein, sons Eric (and wife, Cindy Atlee) and Lloyd (and wife, Lorna); grandsons Nick and Jason; step-granddaughter Christie Atlee; sister Shirley Gelfand (of Boca Raton, FL); and many nieces and nephews. Sy was born and raised in Chicago. After receiving a B.A. in History from Roosevelt University, he taught high school history and served in the U.S. Army before moving to Washington, DC, to become a salesman and manager for Great Books of the Western World. After obtaining an M.S. in Library Science from the U. of Maryland, Sy started his second career at the U. of Iowa, then became Head of Circulation at Trenton State College (now the College of New Jersey). He retired in 1992 as Associate Director. In retirement, Sy worked for several progressive political candidates, tutored Russian immigrants and helped their families settle, and volunteered for the Bucks County Legal Aid Society. He was an avid bowler and tennis player. A memorial service will be held October 24 at 1:00 at the James Dougherty Funeral Home at 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown PA. A reception will follow. The family requests contributions in lieu of flowers, to the Smile Train, the Jewish Family and Childrens Service of Greater Philadelphia, the Bucks County Legal Aid Society, or the American Humane Society.
