Michael "Mike" Yusko, 94, of Riegelsville, PA, formerly of Morrisville and Monessen, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, February 4, 2019, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Helen Lukacs Yusko.
Born June 13, 1924 in Monessen, PA, he was the oldest of four sons to the late Michael and Anna (Lutack) Yusko and is predeceased in death by his brothers, Andy, Eugene and John.
He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was stationed in the Wallis Islands, at Apamama and on Okinawa during the Pacific Campaign where he was part of the 8th AAA Defense Battalion. He participated actively in their annual reunions for 38 years. He was an active member of the Mon-Valley Leathernecks, Marine Corps League of Washington County, the American Legion and the VFW and former member of the Marine Corps League Hugh B. Eastburn Detachment in Bristol.
He moved his family to Morrisville, PA in 1953 and began working as a rigger for U.S. Steel, Fairless Works. When he retired in 1986, he and Helen moved back to their hometown of Monessen, where they lived out their days amongst family and friends.
Mike was a longtime member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Catholic Church in Levittown, and then recently rejoined when he moved back to Bucks County. In Monessen he belonged to St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church.
He is survived by his three sons, Michael (Midge) Yusko of Yardley, PA, Richard (Ann) Yusko of Franklinville, NJ, Charles Yusko of Washington, PA and one daughter, Mary Lou (John) Hoffman, with whom he resided; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren (his fourth generation, as he often bragged); and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 8th, 2019, from 9:00 until 11:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Catholic Church, 1773 Woodbourne Road, Levittown, PA, where his Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow.
Mike will then make the journey back to Monessen, where he will be laid to rest along side his beloved Helen at Saint Mary's Cemetery.
