John grew up in South Philadelphia to parents Anna & John A. Bonghi, Sr. and alongside brother, Ed. John attended Bishop Neumann High School. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard where he served his country. John began his career as a member of the Local 420 Steamfitters Union where he excelled in Commercial Refrigeration. John was a committed employee who strived to always find solutions.
In his spare time, John was an avid fisherman, camping hobbyist and outdoor enthusiast. Above all else, John was extremely proud of his daughters and was deeply devoted to his wife, Mary M. Bonghi with whom he shared a life of love for over 37 years.
John is survived by his daughters, Melissa Bonghi and Marianne Boothe, his brother Ed Bonghi, his Grandchildren Aya and Marshall, extended family and network of friends. John will be deeply missed and remembered for his dedication to those he loved, loyalty, and willingness to help others.
A public memorial service will be held at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA 19056, on Sunday, February 19th, 2023, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm.
