George was born on March 9, 1937, in Trenton, NJ, to George D, Hackett, Jr. and Doris L. Walker. He spent his youth with family in both Trenton and Yardley and graduated from Trenton Central High School in June of 1955.
George began his early career as a machinist at Stryker Machine Products Company and was an active member of Knights of Columbus. He later became a Constable for Bucks County and subsequently a Police Officer for the Yardley Police Department where he served his community well. After retiring from the police force, George carried on his family’s tradition of working as a carpenter, taking on several odd jobs and working as a handyman for Oxford Rehabilitation Center (formerly, Attleboro) in Langhorne, PA.
Anyone who had the pleasure of spending time with George, knew he was a fierce patriot with a love for life and a hearty sense of humor. He was able to find laughter in any situation and was well known for his practical jokes, one-liners and his trend of giving nicknames to those he loved. He enjoyed country music and bluegrass, playing the guitar, traveling the country in his RV, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to being predeceased by his parents, George is survived by his four children and their families: George D. Hackett, IV and his wife, Shirley, of Trevose, PA, Martin Hackett of Yardley, Kathleen Soileau and her husband, Brent of Yulee, FL, Jeanette Hackett of Hamilton Township, NJ and their mother Jeanette Schuster of Bordentown, NJ. He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren: Ian Hackett and his wife Natalie, Thomas Hackett, Katherine Hackett, Jeffrey Hackett, Christian Hackett, Natalie Heba and her husband Khalid, Joshua Soileau and his wife Heather, Brandon Soileau and his wife Kristin, Cade Soileau, Kathryn Soileau, Levi Soileau, Noah Griffis, and Samuel Griffis. Also surviving are his seven great-grandchildren: Ava, Amelia, Jasmine, Gabriel, Aidan, Virginia and Audrey.
Visitation for George will be Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA. A private burial will be held.
