Frank was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Ethel (Ballendorf) Merk; and his brother, Edward Merk. Frank was born in Philadelphia, attended St. Henry’s Elementary School; Cardinal Dougherty High School; LaSalle College; and Central Michigan University. Frank served 4 years in the United States Air Force including service in Vietnam.
Frank is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Patricia (Leonard), and 6 children: Frank III (Lynn), Maureen (Ron), William (Lisa), Christopher (Colleen), Patricia (Geordan), and Teresa (Jeremy). 14 grandchildren: Abby, Brett, Courtney, Evan, Billy, Brian, Danny, Jackson, Caroline (Tanner), Connor, Collin, Graham, Quinn, Declan; and many nieces and nephews.
Frank is also survived by his brothers James Merk and Charles Merk and his sister-in-law Jean Py Merk. Frank had a long career as an industrial engineer at companies such as ITE, Gould and Whitman's Chocolates. He retired as a Veteran's Representative for the PA Department of Labor and Industry.
Over the years, Frank contributed time to the annual Future Cities competition held in Philadelphia, the Knights of Columbus (Fourth Degree Knight), and to his parish, St. Michael the Archangel, where he loved working at the Pizza Stand at St. Mike’s Fair.
Frank was a quiet man who believed in education and helping others. Among his hobbies were playing Chess and cooking Asian food. His greatest joy was attending performances and sporting events of his children and grandchildren. He was their biggest fan.
Family and friends are invited to share condolences Friday October 22nd at 9:00 a.m at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Levittown PA with the funeral Mass following at 10:00 am.
Interment at Washington Crossing National Cemetery will be held privately at a later date.
