He was born to parents Charles and Loretta Johnson in Norwich, Connecticut. After high school, Charlie joined the United States Marine Corp from November 1971 to November 1973. Upon return to civilian life, he worked for the Engineering/Maintenance of Ways Department for Amtrak before moving to Pennsylvania and starting his own carpenter business which, he ran for 15 years before deciding to join a New Jersey Carpenters' Union prior to retirement.
Charlie enjoyed country music, attending and coaching his daughters, stepchildren and grandchildren’s sporting events, his variety of pups over the years, long rides on his Harley Davidson with friends, camping, going to the VFW and listening to the bands. He also had an uncanny ability for fixing and creating things, insisted and ensured he and anyone traveling with him was extra early for practices, games, events or appointments, and a great sense of humor.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Loretta Johnson, and sister Elaine Kondratowicz.
He is survived by his daughters Jenna Johnson (Joseph Montanya) and Michelle McGhee (Lance); his fiancé of 18 years, Gail Grantham; her children Crystal Sydor (Andrey), Carl Rolles, Savanna Grantham (Brian Hawley); and grandchildren Elija, Nicolas and Miles. He is also survived by his siblings Beverly Matteson, Joan Lawton, Lawrence Johnson, Irene Small, Robert Johnson, and Arthur Johnson.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 11a until 3p at the John Billington VFW, 1605 Haines Road, Levittown, PA.

Charlie will will be laid to rest with full Marine Corps Honors at Washington’s Crossing National Cemetery on Friday, June 30, 2023. Please arrive by 1:45 pm.
