CAROL JOYCE CLARK, 72, passed away on April 9, 2023. Anyone who knew Carol knew two things: she loved the color red and you should never call her during Jeopardy. She was also known for her mom jokes and love of travel, visiting places like Portugal, Mexico, Korea, China, Japan, Canada, England, and France. Carol also loved collecting African and Asian art, watching British mystery shows, cooking and baking, trying out various restaurants, and listening to music--both old and new. And did we mention not to call her during Jeopardy?
Carol was born in Orange, New Jersey to Molly Margaret Simon and Alexander Kenneth Clark. She graduated magna cum laude from Rutgers University then went on to get a dual degree--a Master’s in Political Science and a Juris Doctor--from Rutgers University-Newark.
Hers was a lifetime of service. While living in New York City, she worked at the American Indian Community House in Manhattan and Staten Island Borough Hall. After she moved to Morrisville, Pennsylvania with her children, Mercedes and Adam, she ran the Urban Women’s Center in Trenton, worked as a mobile therapist, then worked for both the New Jersey Department of Human Services and the New Jersey Department of Children and Families. It wasn’t until after she moved to Pennsylvania that she joined the Religious Society of Friends, eventually becoming the clerk of Unity Monthly Meeting in Philadelphia. As clerk, she started an after-school program and other community outreach, providing a safe haven for generations of neighborhood children.
There isn’t enough room in an obituary to encapsulate her life or the number of lives that she changed for the better. But the world was a much brighter place, because she was in it.
Carol is now reunited with her parents; her sister, Sandra; her brother, Steven; and her grandson, Maximilian. She is survived by her brother, Kenneth; her children, Mercedes and Adam; and her grandchildren, Dylan and Amara.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 9 am until 12 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA. Interment will follow at Beechwood Cemetery, Bensalem, PA.
