William Darvin Greene, 91, of Lenoir, passed away Monday, February 27, 2012 at Valdese Hospital in Valdese. Born July 1, 1920 in Wilkes County, Mr. Greene was the son of the late Floyd Greene and Birdie Benge Greene.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, William Roger Greene; one sister, Nellie Greene, and three brothers, Brady, Morrie and Erney Greene.
Mr. Greene joined the Army in 1942 and served in World War II. Later he joined and retired from the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Greene enjoyed serving the men and women in the armed forces as a cook; he joined and retired from the Civil Service.
Mr. Greene is survived by six daughters, Drena Adams and husband Wiley, Glenda Walsh and husband Carl, Renee Triplett and husband Boyd, all of Lenoir, Elaine Sheridan and husband Duncan of Georgia, Ann Blackadar and husband Don of Florida, and Janine Horne also of Florida; two sisters Doris Colvard of Hudson and Coleen Nichols of Lenoir; one brother Dick Greene of Lenoir; 17 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.
A graveside service with military rites will be held Thursday, March, 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jesse Adams, Lee Adams, Don Blackadar, Dustin Greene, Tony Phillips and Duncan Sheridan.
