Thomas "Tommy" Michael Macchia, age 78, of Lenoir passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Carolina Rehab of Burke. Tommy was born on November 28, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Thomas Macchia and Helen Starr Macchia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant grandson Benjamin and infant sister Joy.
He is survived by his wife of ten years Stephanie Pruitt Macchia of Lenoir, his daughter Sofia Macchia, daughter Alyson Anderson (husband Tracy), son Mike Macchia (wife Tonia), son Mark Macchia (wife Deanne), son Morris Macchia, his 13 grandchildren, his 5 great-grandchildren, his brother Robert Macchia, and numerous friends who are like family.
Tommy graduated Hudson High School in 1963. He graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College in 1969 with an MBA. He owned Fleet Services during the 1970s and was a pilot for Piedmont Airlines for several years. He was employed by The Ferrell Company and Emil Ferraris Company until his retirement in 2011.
He was ordained as a deacon at Hudson First Baptist Church in 2009. At age 17 Tommy began choir directing at Whitnel United Methodist Church, where he stayed for around 30 years. He also choir directed at Meadowbrook Baptist Church for 17 years. He is currently is a member of First Baptist Lenoir, where he is a choir member.
Tommy will be remembered for his love of the UNC Tarheels. He was a devoted father and "Poppie". He loved his family and his church family.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 10th at First Baptist Church of Lenoir with Dr. Josh Hughes and Rev. Roger Beck officiating.
