Nancy Ann Mitchell

Mrs. Nancy Ann Shannon Mitchell, 80 of Lenoir, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir. Mrs. Mitchell was born November 14, 1942 in Sacramento, CA to the late Harold and Dorothea Kildow Shannon.

Nancy received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Columbia University, in 1962. She then moved to Miami where she worked as a pediatric nurse. While attending a church dance, she met her soon to be husband, Richard. They were married at Perrine Peters United Methodist Church in Miami, Fl.

She was a talented musician and athlete. She enjoyed singing, dancing and playing the piano. She made use of her talents in the church choir and was often found singing her favorite hymn or playing the organ at Mass.

Nancy devoted most of her time taking care of her family and others. There was never a child in need or stray animal who did not end up at her house. She had a generous heart and will leave a hole in many.

Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband of 59 years, Richard Mitchell; four children, Jennifer Mitchell, April Gilman and husband Danny, Michelle Scaglione and husband Chris, and Michael Mitchell and wife Shelia. She was blessed with 9 Grandchildren, Ashley, Brianna, Shannon, Kimberley, Mackenzie, Marissa, Mitchell, Dalton and Danielle living in NC and Fla. Also surviving are three precious great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Friday, April 7th at 3:30pm at St. James Episcopal Church in Lenoir, NC.
