Linda Gwynn Hebel age 79, passed away on Wednesday June 1, 2022 at Brian Center in Hickory North Carolina. Linda was born Monday May 24, 1943 to the late William Theodore and Hilda Hudgins Hebel in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
Linda was a member of UUC of Catawba Valley and will be remembered as a loving sister and friend to all. Ms. Hebel held a Master’s Degree in Political Science from Syracuse University, a BA in Government from Cornell University, and a Juris Doctorate Law Degree from the American University. In September of 1974, she became the first female attorney to practice law in Caldwell County, then after was elected as President of the Caldwell County Bar Association.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sister Elizabeth Hebel Shaw (Lee) of Pittsburgh, PA, four very special nieces Kerry Shaw Duffy, Margaret Crawford, Jennifer Saunders, and Taylor Estes, one nephew Brian Hudgins Shaw, and step sons Jefferson Douglas of San Francisco, CA, Robert “Toby” Douglas of Lenoir, NC, and William Douglas of Gastonia, NC.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Hebel is preceded in death by her late husband Ted Strong Douglas and brother William Theodore Hebel, Jr.
